Weather:

Re-sow leeks as they have germinated very patchy. Lift, split and pot up a couple of clumps of the stenciled geranium (for Margaret’s birthday present).

Prune espalier apple (shorten leaders) and redcurrant fan. More fence painting.

Cherry and raspberries have arrived. Raspberries planted, with polka nearer the fence (5 of), and Galante at the sunnier end (10). cherry heeled in  in the veg patch as planting site is not ready.

Re-pot bay from the broken clay pot into a slightly bigger plastic one; it was very pot-bound, too. Top dress with BFB, leaves looking a bit yellow, it might need full compost replacement next year. Should stick some nasturtiums round the sides.

Sown leek Winter Atlanta, (20), honesty from Island, (6), own-seed Welsh poppy, (6 cells), with fresh Levington’s seed compost, all in propagator.

Planted up strawberry pot, with blood fish & bone, perlite & soil added to the peat-free compost.  Cambridge favourite.

Crocuses showing colour in the rockery, (getting eaten slightly).

A few snow-drops out the front, (also eaten).

Eranthus out under the silver birch, but hidden by the large grasses.

Moved the white campion, feverfew and some bunny-tail grass to front border by cycle-path, interplanted with remaining yellow daffs, (yellow cheerfulness?), and some divisions of ajuga. Not mulched, except for the fuschia moved a few days earlier. Not watered till the next day. Potted up mixed dahlia, 2L, outside. Added extra nerines.
